Jichinsai at Yokohama

activities

Today, I attended a Jichinsai (groundbreaking ceremony; a Shinto ritual to purify the land before construction). Structural engineers are not often invited to this ceremony, but it’s always nice to be included.

The architectural designer mentioned that fewer clients hold Jichinsai these days. Of course, the ceremony has the traditional purpose of praying for the prosperity of the home and the safety of the construction. But beyond that, I feel it also serves as a meaningful milestone before the building process begins.
