茅ヶ崎市美術館で開催していた「美術館建築 -アートと建築が包み合うとき-」展に行ってきました。
展示は

・豊島美術館 : 西沢 立衛
・神奈川県立近代美術館 : 坂倉 準三

・群馬県立館林美術館 : 高橋 靗一 + 第一工房
数多ある美術館建築の中から8つに絞るのは大変な労力だったと思います。図録には美術館建築の年表が掲載されており、日本の美術館建築が網羅されています。また展示された建築の建築家へのインタビューもあり充実した図録でした。
茅ヶ崎市美術館は庭園の中にあるため周辺から離れており、屋根の軽やかさが茅ヶ崎の明るい雰囲気に馴染みながらも静謐な建築になっていました。階段にトップライトが設けられていて、展示室から展示室へ移動する際に外部を取り入れるようにされています。時間切れでカフェに入ることができませんでしたが、次回はカフェからの眺望も見てみたいと思いました。
I visited the ‘Art Museum Architecture : Where Art and Architecture Harmonize’ exhibition held at the Chigasaki City Museum of Art.
The exhibition focused on eight museums, including:
・Chigasaki City Museum of Art : Yoichiro Yamaguchi
・Shimane Arts Center : Hiroshi Naito
・Shimosé Art Museum : Shigeru Ban
・Inujima Seirensho Art Museum : Hiroshi Sambuichi
・Teshima Art Museum : Ryue Nishizawa
・Tsurugaoka Museum, Kamakura : Junzo Sakakura
・The National Museum of Western Art : Le Corbusier
・Gunma Museum of Art, Tatebayashi : Teiichi Takahashi + Daiichi-Kobo
Narrowing down to just these eight among the numerous museum architectures was likely a considerable effort. The catalog includes a timeline of museum architecture, covering Japanese museum buildings comprehensively. There are also interviews with the architects of the exhibited buildings, making the catalog quite enriching.
The Chigasaki City Museum of Art is situated in a garden, creating a peaceful and secluded space away from the surrounding area. The architecture is light yet serene. A skylight is incorporated into the staircase, allowing natural light to enter as visitors move between exhibition rooms. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to visit the café, but I look forward to seeing the view from the café next time.
